Born in Guangxi in 1929, Mr. Zhang Changhuai is a senior designer of
arts and crafts and a member of China Artists Association. He is also
a member of China Industrial Design Society and a member of China Textile
Engineering Society. After his graduation from Zhongnan Art School (Guangzhou
Fine Arts College today), he worked as a senior designer in China Light
Industry Institute, Shanghai Silk Institute, Beijing Silk Mill and Beijing
Printing and Dyeing Factory successively. He was awarded the first and
the second prizes for his pattern designs on the silk products and his
fashion show of colored batik was broadcasted on CCTV and BTV. Due to
his first prizes for his designs of the travel products for four years
running, he was elected one of the best designers of Beijing. After
retirement, he was invited as a professor in Beijing Modern Applied
Art College. His works were exhibited in the joint exhibition of "Designs
by Professor" in China National Art Gallery. His biography is included
in "China Art Dictionary", "China Art Almanac",
"Dictionary of China Contemporary Artists", "Encyclopedia
of the Achievements of the Chinese Artists around the World" and
"Dictionary of China Contemporary Masters of Arts and Crafts".
His books include Batik, Patterns of Butterfly and others.
